NUTCRACKER EXPERIENCE

Why watch when you can dance along?

The Nutcracker Experience is an immersive holiday event for the entire family. Rather than sitting and watching, attendees dance alongside ballerinas to a live symphony orchestra. Part concert, part dance party, and part community celebration, the Nutcracker Experience is “the ideal orchestra concert for young children.”

WHAT: An interactive music and dance event (35 minutes) that can be presented as a stand-alone experience or in conjunction with programming by local arts, service, and education organizations. Immersive events can include:

  • Nutcracker Experience— listen to music by a live symphonic orchestra and dance alongside prima ballerinas

  • Instrument "Petting Zoo"

  • Meet Your Ballerina

  • Crafts and hand puppet theater

  • Furry friends and crafts with local animal shelter

  • Book Nook courtesy of your local bookstore

  • Ice Skating

  • Hot Chocolate Bar + Gingerbread Cookies

  • Cocktails + Full Bar + Food

WHO: Your local dance company + Our chamber orchestra + American Prize-winning conductor Emily Isaacson + Your local organizations

  • Local dance company – student and/or professional ballerinas

  • Chamber orchestra – mid-level orchestra of wind, string, and brass instruments from university or arts nonprofit

  • Conductor Dr. Emily Isaacson – 2018 Maine Artist of the Year; 2022 American Prize; faculty at Bowdoin College

  • Local organizations – arts, service, and education organizations; book store, and food vendors

WHY: Transform the concert experience and attract new audiences through this immersive, multimedia music event. These accessible performances offer classical music for kids and first-time attendees in approachable and dynamic ways.

  • Build new audiences through experiences that connect with people currently untapped in the market: under 45-year-olds, families, those who attend other cultural events but not classical concerts.

  • Increase ticket sales by creating intergenerational experiences that not only accommodate life’s professional and personal demands but celebrate them.

  • Attract new donors by becoming the talk of the town and generating earned media.

  • Reenergize current sponsors by doing meaningful, cutting-edge work that both benefits the local community and is part of a national movement.

  • Become a thought-leader in a national movement in the arts.

“One of the finest things about [Emily Isaacson’s productions]… is the movement from classical music as a spectator sport to a fully participatory activity for musicians, singers, and the audience.”
